Turning the Page

How many of you remember when your parents would read to you as a child?

I remember this rather vividly. I would pick out a book and then climb into one of their laps and position the book, so I could quickly turn the pages as they read. Sometimes I would get scolded because I was too impatient and would try to turn the pages too soon. This would eventually lead to the ultimatum that they would turn the pages as they read.

Now that I'm older and have children of my own, I know how it feels to be on both sides of the page (pun definitely intended). When my girls climb in my lap to read a book, we go through the same struggle as my parents did with me, I have to lay down the gauntlet that I'm going to turn the pages, or we won't finish the book. We are so blessed that God has perfect patience to deal with our impatience concerning His timing.

Our lives could be compared to a book, divided into many pages. For instance, they both have a beginning, middle, and end. For believers, this book, which represents our lives, has been written by our Heavenly Father above. As long as we believe and trust in Him, He will turn our pages entirely in sync with His perfect timing and will lead us hand in hand until He calls us home. But sometimes our impatience can get the best of us.

Our impatience varies based on how God is moving in our lives. If He is working and we are the benefactors of the blessings, then we are content to trust His timing, and we allow Him to turn the pages of our lives. This can be in our careers, our marriages, our relationships, etc. But just let us get a little deterred from God not turning a particular page when we think it should be turned, and we move forward, turning the page ourselves, stepping out of God's divine plan.

If we choose to move forward without having the patience to wait for His direction in our lives, He will step aside and let us face life's challenges alone. This doesn't mean that He has abandoned us or turned a blind eye to our circumstances. God is a jealous God, and He won't compete with the things that we place above Him, but He has given us the ability to choose between following Him and walking alone. Make no bones about it, He doesn't need us to choose Him for His will to be done, but He is standing ever ready to step back into our circumstances. We have to decide to call upon His name and turn our focus back on following His plan for our lives.

It takes a little time and effort to find where you have lost track, and ultimately we have to humble ourselves to let God do the page-turning once we have reconciled our disobedience. So today, take your life to God and climb up into His lap and let Him open your life up to the path and the promises He has set before you and let Him turn the pages in sync with His perfect timing. He loves you and is working all things for your good, so trust Him and believe that regardless of what life may throw at you, He is ultimately in control and is waiting for you to entrust your life to His Will.

Give yourself to the Lord; trust in him, and he will help you; he will make your righteousness shine like the noonday sun. Be patient and wait for the Lord to act; don't be worried about those who prosper or those who succeed in their evil plans. (Psalm‬ ‭37:5-7‬ ‭GNT)

so that you will not be [spiritually] sluggish, but [will instead be] imitators of those who through faith [lean on God with absolute trust and confidence in Him and in His power] and by patient endurance [even when suffering] are [now] inheriting the promises. (‭‭HEBREWS‬ ‭6:12‬ ‭AMP‬‬)
